Jessica Powell Loftis Scholarship for Acteens
Jessica Loftis was a lot like most of you. She lived life to the fullest, active in school and church. She loved Acteens and participated in missions projects. On October 30, 1993, Jessica and her father were killed in a car accident. However, Jessica's legacy lives on in the lives of other Acteens through the Jessica Powell Loftis Scholarship Fund for Acteens. Scholarships are given to provide training and leadership experiences for Acteens and their leaders, and may be used for academic preparation.
The Jessica Powell Loftis Scholarship for Acteens was established in January 1995 by WMU upon the initial gift by Miss Loftis’s mother and her grandparents. Scholarships are given to provide training and leadership experiences for Acteens and their leaders, and may be used for academic preparation. To be eligible, you must be:
· An Acteen who plans to attend college and has completed Quest for Vision in the MissionsQuest program or StudiAct.
· An Acteen for at least one year who will attend an Acteens event.
· An Acteens leader who is pursuing academic or leadership training to lead an Acteens group.

I am having a busy semester. In addition to my classes at East Texas Baptist University, I work in the afternoons at a child care facility with four- and five-year-olds. I also participate in a Bible study through the campus Women's Ministry. I recently helped with an annual event, To Longview with Love, that was sponsored by my church. Each year the congregation at Macedonia Baptist in Longview, Texas, prepares a dinner for the community. I helped with desserts and waited tables. Many of the people who come are among the town's neediest. Serving in this way was a great experience.

As a recipient of the Jessica Powell Loftis Scholarship, I plan to continue my education at Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi. There I will major in Modern Language, specializing in Spanish and French, and minor in English. After college, I will seek seminary training and then pursue a career as a full-time missionary. I hope to use my degree in a foreign country to serve out my career as a translator or teacher. God has taught me so much through the Acteens program about faith, hope, and love. Through this generous scholarship, He continues to teach me to have faith in His goodness, hope in His plan for me, in whatever I do, to love Him most and share with others His love. I am truly grateful for the financial assistance given me as I pursue my calling.
